Story of a loft conversion

Plasterboard and electrics and more insulation

Now the roof structure is partially insulated the electrician is on site to start the wiring, the areas where he has put the wires can now be plaster-boarded.

Unusually the insulating and plaster-board is fitted before the felt and battening of the roof structure. Once the inside is done the roofers can work under the cover of the tin hat that is still protecting the house and the plumber and others can work on the inside to finish the inside. Still a long way to go yet but things are really taking shape now. The picture below shows the front of the conversion, the position of the Velux and the Tri-Iso insulation.

Tri iso offers space saving advantages – generally being 3-5 times thinner than tradition mineral and glass fibre products. Thus not only does it allow an increase in living space, in renovation work it also allows features such as exposed beams to be retained. Multifoil insulation contributes to significant energy savings – heating in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. Multifoil insulation is clean. It contains no irritant fibres and thus no protective/respiratory equipment is required when installing. Multifoil insulation is quick and easy to install – it can be cut with a craft knife and fixed with a staple gun. Multifoil insulation is rot proof and does not attract rodents. It does not weaken over time and thus has an extremely long life span. Multifoil insulation is tear resistant. Multifoil Insulation – Product Types Triso Super 10 / Alumaflex / Superquilt For use in pitched roofs and can be fixed both over or under rafters using a staple gun. This can be cut using only a craft knife and is thus extremely quick and easy to install.
